Jensen Ackles Does Resident Evil 4?
The co-star of the CW’s teen cult sensation "Supernatural" Jensen Ackles is in talks for the role of Leon Kennedy in the fourth "Resident Evil" currently known as "Afterlife.", according to SciFiWire. The third film "Extinction" is in production and the fourth is already preparing to film next year to follow in the video game horror movie franchise.
Ackles has plenty of horror and sci-fi experience under his belt. He played Alec in the second season of James Cameron’s "Dark Angel," Jason Teague in the fourth season of "Smallville," and now he has his big lead role in "Supernatural" where he plays the cool and wise-cracking Dean Winchester with his fellow star the rise Jared Padalecki. Who could be a better fit for "Resident Evil 4" than one of the newest kings of teen horror television?
Anyone familiar with Leon Kennedy from the games can tell you that Ackles is perfect for the part. His voice, mannerisms, and overall appearance make an ideal match for the character. No one could play Kennedy better, and if Ackles gets the role, it will be his largest big screen role yet. In a slice of irony, "Afterlife" is also the name of an episode of "Supernatural" in its coming second season.
Ackles has good buzz around his performance in the upcoming "Ten Inch Hero" and is consistently radiating talent on the small screen, so "Resident Evil: Afterlife" might be a tremendous opportunity for him to further expand his burgeoning career. There are others being considered, but if the versatile and charismatic Ackles signs on, the popular cop Kennedy is sure to be everything he is in the games and more. Fans of "Resident Evil" and the actor should hope to be so lucky.

Resident Evil 4: Fourth Film Rumored
A fourth film in the Resident Evil franchise is being considered. On the Extinction set in Mexico City a few months ago, it was said by producer Jeremy Bolt that the filmmakers, including writer-producer Paul W.S. Anderson, they were mulling a fourth movie. Beyond that, it's all rumor. The film may be known as "Afterlife," which was the original working title for the third movie in the series. Rumored members of the cast include Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, Jensen Ackles, Jason O'Mara, Charlie Clausen and Sienna Guillory.

WonderCon '07 - Resident Evil Extinction Hits the Con
The upcoming videogame adaptation Resident Evil: Extinction made an appearance at this year's WonderCon event, as did two of the film's stars: Oded Fehr (Resident Evil: Apocalypse, The Mummy) and Ali Larter (Heroes, Final Destination). Playing Carlos Olivera and Claire Redfield respectively, the two chatted about what audiences could expect from the third installment of the franchise.
"When I saw the first movie and kind of played the game, I realized, 'Well, it's not exactly the same thing,'" said Fehr, while trying to belay the fear of gamers who feel the film deviates to far from the videogames. "That was the setup when I joined [Apocalypse]. We do take a lot of little things from the games and I think that's what keeps you involved. But it's definitely a movie, and I think it's good that way because it allows Paul Anderson to create this new world and a story that starts and ends. So it's not exactly the game, but it's the feel of it."
And while Larter confessed to being a bit "technologically backwards" and — as such — has never played any of the games, she knows enough about the franchise to admit she shares little in common with her character.
"She's a bit better at kicking butt then I am, but I had fun playing her," said the actress. "I loved having red hair. I loved getting down in the desert; I loved shooting guns. It was fun. We shot guns all day and drank margaritas all night."
Fehr shared Larter's enthusiasm for the project.
"We had a lot of fun on Apocalypse and doing a triquel in this case — doing a second installment, as far as I was concerned, for a movie, you're always a little bit worried about how the second one is going to be," noted the actor. "But the script, I think [Extinction] is the best of all three. So it was extremely exciting. And in my opinion, any movie that's shot in the desert, in the heat, with those kinds of colors and the sweat, I feel that there's a lot more adventure to it. It's just a very attractive movie, so I was very happy to do the third one."
Of course, "mum" was the word when the subject of yet another sequel came up. But the actors did allude to the fact the no film in a popular franchise is ever really given an official ending; rather, the potential always exists to keep the property going. Resident Evil: Extinction hits theaters September 21, 2007.
